Make the collage with tissue paper using one of the following techniques for two different results. Keep the collage as a picture to display or convert it into a birthday or holiday card. This project requires only a few supplies for great-looking results.

Materials to Make a Collage that Looks Like Stained Glass

The materials required for either version of this project is the same.

  • Cardstock
  • Stencils with large shapes
  • Pencil
  • Sharp scissors
  • Colored tissue paper
  • White glue

Make a Sun Catcher Collage

  1. Start with a stencil or two with large, open shapes as opposed to small details to cut from the paper. Trace the shape(s) onto the cardstock, leaving at least an inch margin all around. Repeat one image a few times over the page or use a couple of stencils with images that would make sense next to one another.
  2. Carefully, poke a hole in the center of the image and cut away the shape(s). Younger children may need a parent’s assistance with this part.
  3. Tear the tissue paper into pieces approximately one-inch. Glue onto the back of the picture. In this version of the project, cover not only the opening with tissue paper but also one side of the piece of paper so the cardstock is no longer visible.

The result when dry is a two-sided piece of artwork. One side shows only the opening(s) with the collage showing, while the other side is a complete tissue paper collage. (In the right lighting, the cut-away shapes will be visible.) Set the tissue paper in a plastic lid with glue to make another type of suncatcher.
