The Venetian island of Murano is famous for its glass works. The island produces a wide range of goods from tiny jewellery items, to large scale chandeliers and light fixtures. For the writer however, it is the glass pen which takes centre stage.

What are Murano Glass Pens?

Glass pens are made in Venice of the island of Murano with construction taking two forms. The less common form takes a glass shaft, to which a metal nib is attached. The metal nib is then dipped into an ink bottle and the pen used in a similar style to that of a fountain pen. The more common and traditional glass pen is made from a single piece of glass, which includes the nib of the pen.
